The first Google Glass was launched in 2013. Not having met with success, the device had been a little forgotten by all. Until today. Indeed, Google has just launched a new version: Google Glass Enterprise Edition (or Google Glass EE), which, as its name suggests, is dedicated to companies. This change in positioning fundamentally differentiates them from the first version.

In order to be able to design and develop applications on all innovative interfaces, Tapptic acquired the new Glass to offer its Business-to-Business customers value-added applications.

As previously mentioned, this new version of the Glass is intended for companies and their employees. The dream of seeing the general public wearing eyeglasses connected to everyday life is ending for the moment.

There are now many situations where Glass replaces or complements other interfaces. The applications that are currently being developed mainly target production teams with, as a promise, a real productivity gain on the part of their teams (barcode scanner/QR code, photo capture, checklist tracking, call, product information, task completion, content validation, etc.).

For Google, this new version has three main advantages:

  • The glasses are foldable. Compared to the first version, they are easier to handle and store. For factory users who frequently carry and store eyeglasses, this flexibility is a protection advantage.

  • It is possible to play videos, annotated images or checklists, which brings a real added value to the daily life of users. In this way, they will be able to have precise instructions in front of them without losing sight of their surroundings.

  • An 8 megapixel camera also allows you to share your field of view with another user and get immediate feedback.

Companies such as Boeing, GE, DHL and Volkswagen are already testing the aircraft to see what the productivity gain can be.

It is true that Google Glass is aimed at a specific niche, but the use of productivity gains is no longer necessary. Tapptic is already considering several concrete cases with its customers in the industrial sector.
